Amelia Caruso

From Cincinnati, OH

Lives & works in Fort Collins, Colorado

Amelia Caruso grew up in Cincinnati Ohio. She attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati. At the Art Academy, she entered as an illustration student and left as a photographer. She studied photography with Cal Kowal who could be a harsh taskmaster. Amelia knows she is a better artist for it. Even though Amelia is now a painter, she feels that her eye still composes her paintings in a viewfinder.

Ms. Caruso exhibits throughout the United States. Her artwork appeared on Emmy winning television shows including Will & Grace. Amelia designed a fabric line with manufacturer Robert Kaufman and was recently awarded the purchase prize for the 20th anniversary of the Colorado State University Commission on Women and Gender Equity with her piece, Details of My Life.

Amelia has work in the permanent collection of the Ft Collins Museum of Art & Colorado State University. She has participated with many Art in Public Places projects, the majority of in her now home state of Colorado.

Amelia resides in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado where she creates artwork and works to educate woman that they are the masters of their own creativity.

"I use the dot as a tool which can change someone's perspective. The relationship between colors, how a red looks with teal is completely changes when that same red is placed with a yellow. The energy of the dots stacked with color could be a satellite photo or a close up image of cells. A non-objective look at the world through these dots can be anything to anyone.

The dots are hand painted with only a paintbrush. No other tools are used". ~Amelia Caruso
